Sakura in Sliema – A Disappointing Experience
Sakura, a Japanese restaurant located in Sliema, has always been a favorite spot for sushi lovers. However, my recent visit was a disappointment. The food lacked the authentic taste that I have come to expect from this restaurant. Everything was over-seasoned with wasabi and mayo, overwhelming the delicate flavors of the sushi. The normal rolls were also extremely hot and lacked flavor, making for a less-than-enjoyable dining experience.
It’s always disheartening to visit a restaurant that you once loved and find that their quality has declined. As a frequent customer of Sakura, I was especially disappointed with my latest visit. The sushi rolls, which are usually a highlight of the menu, were overpowered by the strong flavors of wasabi and mayo. This combination took away from the delicate taste of the seafood and vegetables, making for an unenjoyable meal.
The normal rolls were also a letdown, as they lacked flavor and were unpleasantly hot. This detracted from the overall experience and left me feeling unsatisfied.
I hope that this was just a temporary issue and that Sakura will return to its former glory. Until then, I cannot give it a higher rating than 2 out of 5 stars.
As Sun Tzu wrote in “The Art of War,” “The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting.” Similarly, in cooking, the supreme art is to enhance the natural flavors of the ingredients without overpowering them. In this case, the use of excessive wasabi and mayo defeated the purpose and resulted in a less-than-delightful meal.
In conclusion, I hope that Sakura will return to its former quality and that my next visit will be a more enjoyable experience. Until then, I cannot recommend this restaurant to others.
