The Horror of Showboat Atlantic City Hotel: A Nightmarish Experience

As one can see from all my past reviews on various businesses around the world, I very rarely complain… however this hotel deserves nothing but complaints.

There’s nothing in this hotel. The casino closed down, the restaurants closed down, the house of blues closed down, escalators don’t work, elevators most of them don’t work, bathrooms downstairs always out o order, WiFi doesn’t work. There’s what happened on our little “break”…

Day1:

We were given 1 towels – for a room which we booked for 3 adults. Are we meant to share the same towel here?

We complained about the WiFi not working and were told that there’s no guarantee that it works everyday – yet I’m being charged everyday for it ($40 a day too just for the WiFi!!!)

From 11pm till 4am the 3 women in the room next to us were shouting, swearing at each other, banging on the doors, throwing stuff around the room – numerous complaints to the front desk security finally came up at 3am – only to knock on their door and leave again. I had to go out to the hallway to tell the security to actually make them stop, kick them out or give us another room. They asked them to stop fighting “cause others want to sleep” – which obviously they didn’t.
Yes

Day 2:

Room service came and only made up 1 bed, left the other unmade – but hey at least we got a towel each now.

We complained about the WiFi again and were told from the front desk supervisor Keisha that they’ve been having trouble with the wifi and she can’t even connect herself so she’s gonna waiver the wifi charge for our entire stay which seemed reasonable enough to us since we couldn’t use it.

Someone called to our room about 10 minutes after we got in and said they’re from the front desk and my credit card is showing that it expired so I needed to go with a new one for my deposit (PS – my card expires in a year and a half). I told this person I’ll be there on out way out if we go out tonight or otherwise first thing in the morning. About 45 minutes later we get another angry call saying that they have already called and they need the new credit card details and I told this person the same thing I said before and she just hung up on me!

Day 3:

First thing in the morning I go to front desk for my credit card details issue only to be told that no one called us. But they wanted to take my credit card details for deposit cause they didn’t have a card on record (despite me giving them my card when we checked in). We were then presented with a bill for the valet for our entire 5 nights. When we asked what this is for, the front desk girl actually said “well you have a car if you’re not using our valet, where are you parking?” When i answered with “Oceans next door which has free parking and it’s taking us less than 3 minutes to walk from their parking lot to out hotel” She shrugged us off and said, well our guests normally pay the $25 a night to park here.

I asked for our bill to be revised and she said to stop by the desk on our way back in later today, so we left. My mother was tired and decided to go back to the hotel earlier than the rest of us. About 10 minutes after she got in our room she called me to tell me that the front desk called again and told her that if we’re not going down right now with the new credit card details she is going to send security to evict us from our room. She told them that I will be back in about an hour and a half and I was going to stop there when I come, but they were having none of it and dragged an elder lady out of her afternoon nap from a pre-paid fully-paid room to go to the front desk to put down her credit card for incidentals because they couldn’t wait 90 minutes to take mine. She explain to them what happened that morning, and the lady at the desk told her “I don’t care what they said this morning, I need your card details cause you already have outstanding charges against your room.” My mom asked for the bill and the bill was for 2 nights parking with the valet and 5 nights WiFi – she explained that we never used the valet and the WiFi wasn’t working and the receptionist told her that she’s neither the technician nor the valet attendant so if the charges are on her computer, we gotta pay for them. She even threatened to kick us out if we don’t so she made my mom pay for them there and then.

I stopped by the front desk when I got back that evening and they actually told me that they didn’t charge her in the end because my mom’s card was also expired and we need to give them a proper card that works. We showed the lady both my card and my mom’s card, she saw that one expired in 5 months and one expired in 19months and she told us “i can see that, but my computer is saying they’re expired so you need to provide me with another card” – which we didn’t have.

She said she’ll speak to her supervisor and will get back to us – which never happened btw!

Room service didn’t come today.

Day 4:

Room service didn’t come again. i called housekeeping and was re-routed to the front desk when we got in at around 8pm and realized that and was told that room service is not offered automatically and we have to request it. So I requested it and they said I have to call back in the morning cause I have to request it on the same day and housekeeping was already closed for today.

We requested toilet paper and were told to call in the morning!

Day 5:

First thing in the morning – requested housekeeping.

Comes back after our day out and about – both beds are made but we now have zero towels and zero toilet paper.

This was the only hotel I ever stayed in where we had to buy our own toilet paper!

Day 6: Check out day

We had a late check out booked (till 1pm) – their normal check out is at 11am. At 10:30am someone knocked on the door – it was housekeeping – they came to make up the room for the next guests with us still in it!!!

We asked front desk for a bell boy – we were told that we had to carry our own luggage as he wasn’t in today!!

One word of advice: STAY AWAY from this dump! – Rating – 1/5 Stars”
